Fun Facts:
  • The Blobfish is a deep-sea fish known for its unusual, gelatinous appearance. It inhabits waters off the coasts of Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand, at depths ranging from 600 to 1,200 meters (2,000 to 3,900 feet). At such depths, the extreme pressure helps maintain the fish's structure. However, when brought to the surface, the drastic reduction in pressure causes the blobfish to "deflate" and appear soft and saggy, giving it its distinctive blob-like appearance. Blobfish gained popularity as "the world's ugliest animal" after a 2013 online vote, which gave them a bit of a cult following due to their peculiar appearance.
